51 BJJ Academies in Mexico City.
Mexico City has an active BJJ scene that's grown noticeably in recent years. The Federación Mexicana de Jiu Jitsu (FMJJ / FemexJJ), established in 2000, is the country's national federation regulating jiu-jitsu in Mexico, and IBJJF / AJP events both visit the country.
Notable rooms include Renzo Gracie México at Galileo 361 in Polanco (the team also operates an MD Self Defense Academy location in Condesa). Promahos Jiu-Jitsu and MMA, part of the worldwide Zenith BJJ team, sits at Anaxágoras 925 in Narvarte Poniente and runs BJJ, MMA, Muay Thai, and Judo programs out of one facility. The 10th Planet Mexico affiliate (the country's main Eddie Bravo room) is in Ciudad López Mateos in the Mexico City metro area, just outside the CDMX city line. Okami is another active CDMX BJJ academy in the Roma Norte area.
A thing worth flagging: Mexico City sits at roughly 2,250 meters elevation. The first few classes will hit your cardio harder than you'd expect, even if you're in shape. Hydrate aggressively, and don't be surprised if your gas tank feels small for the first week.
Where to look: Polanco (Renzo Gracie), Condesa (MD Self Defense), and Narvarte Poniente (Promahos) have well-known rooms. Pretty much every gym in the city is reachable by Uber for a few dollars; the metro works but takes longer.
Practical tips: most gyms speak some English but Spanish is the working language at most rooms. Drop-in pricing varies by gym — ask the academy directly. Best months: October–April for comfortable training weather (CDMX is high-altitude, mostly dry and mild). Rainy season (May–September) brings frequent afternoon storms. Bring whatever gi you have — the scene is flexible.
