BJJ Academies in Peru.
Peru's BJJ scene took root in the late 1990s. Around 1998, blue belt Jorge Balarin began teaching classes in Lima; in 2000, Brazilian black belt Alex Ferreira arrived in Lima and officially established the country's first BJJ academy. The Federación Deportiva Peruana de Jiu Jitsu — Peru's national federation, registered with the IPD (Instituto Peruano del Deporte) — operates from Calle Madre de Dios N° 463, Lima. Since 2012, the TBJJP circuit has run Jiu-Jitsu tournaments across the country.
Lima is the country's BJJ hub. Renzo Gracie Peru is at Av. Húsares de Junín 445 in Jesús María, under head instructor Rober Descailleaux. The most influential and largest teams in Peru are Sniper (Miraflores), Guigo, Almeida, Bushido, and Monkey Jiu-Jitsu Lima.
