Lima — both the capital and the home of nearly all Peru's BJJ academies — is the country's BJJ hub. The Federación Deportiva Peruana de Jiu Jitsu (Peru's national federation, registered with the IPD) operates from Calle Madre de Dios N° 463 in Lima.
Renzo Gracie Peru is at Av. Húsares de Junín 445 in the Jesús María district, under head instructor Rober Descailleaux. The most influential and largest BJJ teams in Peru are Sniper (Miraflores), Guigo, Almeida, Bushido, and Monkey Jiu-Jitsu Lima. Peru's BJJ scene took root around 1998 when blue belt Jorge Balarin began teaching in Lima, with Brazilian black belt Alex Ferreira opening the country's first official BJJ academy in Lima in 2000. Since 2012, the TBJJP circuit has run BJJ tournaments throughout the country, all anchored in Lima.
