How MatDrop works

MatDrop is a directory of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academies, open mats and events. It lists 4,801 academies in 39 countries. This page explains where that information comes from and how to fix it when it's wrong.

Where the listings come from

We find gyms through Google Maps business listings, city by city. That gives a listing its name, address, phone number, website and map pin.

Gyms and visitors also send us academies through Add a gym. A person checks each one against a public source, like the gym's website, before it goes live.

Timetables, prices and instructors

A class timetable only goes on a listing when the gym publishes one. We copy it from the gym's own website, and the academy page shows the date we last checked it and the site it came from. When a timetable is old or has expired, the page says so.

A drop-in fee is listed only when the gym publishes a price for a visitor class or day pass. A monthly membership price isn't a drop-in fee, so we leave it out.

Promotions on the lineage tree link to the source they were taken from.

Whatever the page says, check with the gym before you drop in.

Fixing a listing

Every academy page has a “Suggest an edit” link. You don't need an account. Nothing changes on its own: a person checks each suggestion against the gym's website, its social pages or a phone call, and applies what holds up.

If you run the gym, you can claim your listing for free. A person reviews every claim, and once it's approved you edit the listing yourself: description, contact details, drop-in fee and class schedule.

Academies can pay to be Featured. A Featured academy carries a “Featured” label and is listed first in its city, and wherever that happens the list says the top spots are paid. The rest of the list keeps its normal order, alphabetical or by distance.
