BJJ Academies in New South Wales.

New South Wales is Australia's foundational BJJ hub. The NSW BJJ Federation — the first state BJJ federation in Australia — was founded in 2001 by Brazilian black belts Paulo Guimarães, Marcelo Rezende, and Bruno Panno. The federation runs a year-round circuit of three flagship cup events (Autumn Cup, Winter Cup, Summer Cup), each carrying NSW BJJ League ranking points and AFBJJ national points; competitors must hold AFBJJ membership.

Gracie Sydney was founded in 2001 by Bruno Panno (Gracie Humaita lineage, Royler and Rolker Gracie black belts) and is described as the Gracie family's chief representative in Australia. Its current main address is 3/576 Botany Rd, Alexandria. Gracie Barra Sydney was founded in 2002 by Marcelo Rezende and serves as the GB Oceania regional headquarters from Frenchs Forest (Level 3/28 Rodborough Rd); the network now spans 45+ schools across Australia and New Zealand. Team Perosh in Five Dock is led by UFC veteran Anthony Perosh, a Carlos Machado 5th-degree black belt who received his black belt from Machado in August 2003 after training in Dallas from 1997.

Beyond the Sydney cluster, the Will-Machado BJJ Australasia network — directed by John Will, the first Australian BJJ black belt (Rigan Machado, 1998) — covers NSW with affiliates in Five Dock, Moorebank (Kings Academy / Elvis Sinosic), and Penrith. The AJP Tour Australia National Championship was held at Camellia Indoor Sports Centre, Sydney in March 2025; the AJP Tour Oceania Continental Championship runs at the Heffron Centre.
