BJJ Academies in Victoria.

Victoria is Australia's most decorated BJJ-producing state by competition results, with Melbourne running the deepest concentration of high-level rooms in the country. The 2025 Pan Pacific IBJJF Championship was held at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre on October 24–26, hosted by AFBJJ.

Absolute MMA St Kilda is the country's most influential modern grappling room, led for over a decade by head coach Lachlan Giles — a BJJ black belt who became the first Australian to medal in the ADCC absolute division when he took bronze at ADCC 2019, submitting Kaynan Duarte, Patrick Gaudio, and Mahamed Aly via heel hook. Absolute also runs Melbourne CBD and Collingwood locations, plus a competition team that includes Craig Jones (two-time ADCC silver — 2019 -88kg and 2022 -99kg). Other Melbourne BJJ rooms include Checkmat Australia.

Beyond Melbourne, the Victorian state circuit feeds AFBJJ's national rankings — Absolute MMA's Oliver Smith took 2nd place in both his weight division and the open weight at the 2023 Victorian State Championships.
