BJJ Academies in Amazonas.
Amazonas is one of the most disproportionately productive BJJ states in the world relative to its population — the state has produced a long list of world champions and elite competitors, including Ronaldo "Jacaré" Souza, Saulo Ribeiro, Alexandre "Xande" Ribeiro, Bibiano Fernandes, Fredson Paixão, Wallid Ismaël, Gabriel Moraes, and Ary Farias.
The Federação de Jiu-Jitsu do Amazonas (FJJAM), founded in 1977, is the state's BJJ federation — described as the only state federation officially affiliated with CBJJ and IBJJF. The federation runs an annual season-end tournament whose winners receive State and Federation sponsorship plus a trip to Rio to compete at the IBJJF Mundials.
Manaus — the state capital, deep in the Brazilian Amazon — runs the entire scene. The IBJJF Manaus International Open returns annually in partnership with CBJJ. Ronaldo Jacaré's foundational academy A.S.L.E. continues to run BJJ and judo programming, including scholarship classes for local youth. The 38th edition of the FJJAM Campeonato Amazonense ran March 22–23, 2025 at Arena Poliesportiva Amadeu Teixeira.
