BJJ Academies in Distrito Federal.
Brasília is Brazil's purpose-built capital — inaugurated April 21, 1960 under President Juscelino Kubitschek, with urban plan by Lúcio Costa and architecture by Oscar Niemeyer (UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987). The Federal District (population 2.8 million per the 2022 IBGE census) is Brazil's third most populous urban area, and despite its size has produced UFC and ONE-level talent disproportionate to a region without São Paulo or Rio's depth.
Most of that pipeline runs through Constrictor Team, founded in Brasília by Mestre Ataíde Júnior — a black belt under Armando Wriedt, one of Hélio Gracie's earliest black belts. Constrictor's affiliated competitors include Rani Yahya (2007 ADCC -66 kg champion, multi-time IBJJF World medalist), Adriano "Mikinho" Moraes (Brasília-born, three-time ONE Flyweight World Champion), Paulo Thiago (UFC veteran and BOPE/PMDF officer), and Renato Moicano (UFC, born in Brasília in 1989, came up at Constrictor before relocating).
Beyond Constrictor, Gracie Barra has multiple Brasília affiliates including Gracie Barra W3 Sul (Asa Sul) and Gracie Barra Jardim Botânico, plus locations in Asa Norte, Gama, Vicente Pires, and Santa Maria. Alliance has Brasília affiliates in Sudoeste and Riacho. GFTeam runs an affiliate in Vila Planalto.
The IBJJF holds the Brasília International Open annually at Ginásio Poliesportivo do Cruzeiro in Cruzeiro Novo (the 2025 edition ran November 8–9), with a companion Brasília Kids International Open.
