BJJ Academies in British Columbia.

British Columbia is the cradle of Canadian BJJ — Marcus Soares, a direct student of Grand Master Carlson Gracie and now a 9th-degree black belt, taught his first Vancouver class on April 7, 1997. He is described as the first BJJ black belt to teach in Canada and is widely referred to as the "Father of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Canada."

Marcus Soares Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy operates locations across Vancouver, Langley, and Maple Ridge, with the main Vancouver location at 201-910 Richards Street. The academy network has been a foundational presence in Lower Mainland BJJ for nearly three decades, training generations of Canadian black belts in the Carlson Gracie tradition.

The Canadian Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (CBJJF), based in Port Coquitlam, BC, runs provincial Opens including the Rocky Mountain Classic.
