BJJ Academies in Quebec.
Quebec's BJJ scene runs under the Fédération Québécoise de Jiu-jitsu Brésilien (FQJJB) — the provincial federation focused on practitioner safety and BJJ-specific competition development.
Montreal is the province's anchor. Tristar Gym, run by head coach Firas Zahabi (BJJ black belt under John Danaher, awarded 2011), is described as Canada's #1 MMA training center. Tristar's roster has included former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, plus David "Crow" Loiseau, Kenny Florian, Miguel Torres, Ivan Menjivar, Yves Jabouin, John Makdessi, and Denis Kang. GSP earned his BJJ black belt at Tristar under Bruno Fernandes — a Carlos Gracie Jr. black belt — in September 2008. Bruno Fernandes opened Gracie Barra Montreal in 2010.
The FQJJB roster includes Tristar Gym Montreal and Tristar Gym Repentigny, plus other accredited Quebec rooms across the Greater Montreal Area.
