Louisiana's BJJ scene is anchored by New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

In New Orleans, NOLA BJJ — described as the oldest and largest BJJ school in the city — runs four locations across the metro with 50+ black belts and 300+ students; the main facility off Magazine Street operates out of an old fire station. Gracie United operates additional Louisiana academies in Kenner, Metairie, and Mandeville.

In Baton Rouge, Bayou Jiu-Jitsu & Self-Defense is led by a Ralph Gracie black belt and was named "Best Martial Arts Academy" in the 2023 Baton Rouge Parents Magazine Family Favorites Contest. Gracie United South Baton Rouge anchors the Gracie United presence in the capital. Across the state, Gracie United runs 33+ locations under Professor Rafael Ellwanger across Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.
