Maryland's BJJ scene is anchored by Baltimore. Yamasaki Academy — the network founded by Master Mario and Master Fernando Yamasaki — has multiple Maryland locations and is described as offering world-class training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, and Muay Thai. Baltimore Martial Arts Academy in Catonsville has been teaching BJJ and MMA since 1995, making it one of the state's longest-running BJJ rooms.

Other Baltimore-area academies include Baltimore BJJ in Essex, Ground Control (with a women's BJJ program), Rollstar Jiu Jitsu, Charm City Mixed Martial Arts, The Compound BJJ, Form Jiu Jitsu Academy, and Zenyo Jiu Jitsu.
