United Kingdom

BJJ Academies in England.

England carries the bulk of the UK's BJJ scene under UKBJJA — the United Kingdom Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Association — recognized in 2021 by the Sports Councils of England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland as the official National Governing Body for BJJ.

London is the country's competition center of gravity. The IBJJF runs two annual Crystal Palace events at the National Sports Centre — the London International Open (February) and the London Spring Open (June). Roger Gracie Academy is in Hammersmith, West London, under 10-time IBJJF black-belt world champion Roger Gracie. Carlson Gracie London (Westway, Hammersmith) was founded December 2001 by Wilson Junior, Dickie Martin, and Simon Hayes. Mill Hill BJJ runs out of North London at 270 Watford Way.

Birmingham anchors the Midlands. Gracie Barra Birmingham (1 Stanhope Street) was the first Gracie Barra academy in Europe — opened 1997 by Mauricio Motta Gomes, passed to 4-time IBJJF World Champion Braulio Estima in 2003.

Manchester carries the Northern English scene. Stealth Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is run by 4th-degree BJJ black belt Steve Campbell; Factory BJJ, Union Academy (founded 2013), and Predators MMA & BJJ (founded 2006) round out the city's surface.
