Bali is Indonesia's BJJ-tourism hub — and the home of the country's foundational academy.

Synergy BJJ MMA Academy was established on July 28, 2003 by Niko Han (a Rickson Gracie black belt who trained in Los Angeles before opening Synergy) — Bali's first BJJ and MMA academy. Synergy is an Official Rickson Gracie Team and a Jiu-Jitsu Global Federation Certified Academy. The network now has approximately 35 affiliated academies across Indonesia. Niko also founded the Federasi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Indonesia (FBJJI), the country's national governing body.
