BJJ Academies in Ireland.

Ireland's BJJ scene is anchored by Straight Blast Gym Ireland (SBG Ireland) — the Dublin academy founded in 2001 by John Kavanagh. Kavanagh was awarded Ireland's first BJJ black belt in 2007 and is now a 3rd-degree black belt; SBG's Inchicore HQ has produced multiple high-level competitors and MMA fighters, most notably former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor, Aisling Daly, Gunnar Nelson, and Dillon Danis. SBG Ireland operates as part of Matt Thornton's Straight Blast Gym International network, with Irish branches in Belfast, Cork City, Clonmel, Killarney, Ballina, Tullamore, and Strabane.

Other Dublin BJJ rooms include SBG Charlestown — owned and managed by Owen Roddy, a BJJ black belt, former Cage Warriors bantamweight world champion, and longtime striking coach to Conor McGregor — and JSBJJ Training Centre. The Ireland BJJ tournament organization (irelandbjj.com) runs the country's main competition circuit, with 30+ tournaments organized over a decade-long history.
