Lisbon (Distrito de Lisboa) is Portugal's BJJ center of gravity. The Federação Portuguesa de Jiu-Jitsu Brasileiro (FPJJB), the country's national governing body, hosts major events in the Lisbon area, including the IBJJF European Jiu-Jitsu Championship and the annual Lisboa Open. Portuguese law requires BJJ instructors to hold a Trainer's Certificate for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu issued by the Instituto Português do Desporto e Juventude (IPDJ).
