Utah is one of the U.S.'s most Pedro Sauer–anchored BJJ states, with multiple academies tracing their instruction back to Master Pedro Sauer's teachings.

Unified Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy in South Jordan opened in 2006, founded by five Pedro Sauer black belts — among the early pioneers of the Salt Lake City BJJ scene — including Shawn Weaver, John Carlquist, James Gardner, and Matt Strack. Fusion Academy is described as Salt Lake City's premiere BJJ school, run by Pedro Sauer black belt Eddie Edmunds. Gracie Barra Salt Lake City covers the Gracie Barra presence in the metro.
