Gauteng — South Africa's economic heartland and the province containing Johannesburg and Pretoria — is the country's second major BJJ region after the Western Cape.

Johannesburg's anchor is Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Fourways in Sandton — described on its site as Johannesburg's first Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Certified Training Center. The provincial scene also feeds the country's two-track competition surface: the SJJAF Open Africa Jiu-Jitsu Championship (the IBJJF-style domestic circuit) and the AJP Tour South Africa National Jiu-Jitsu Championship (the AJP-ruleset stop). Pretoria runs additional BJJ rooms across the metro.
