BJJ Academies in South Africa.
South Africa is the most established BJJ surface on the African continent. Two competition tracks run here: the SJJAF Open Africa Jiu-Jitsu Championship runs the IBJJF-style domestic circuit (the 6th edition ran April 26–27, 2025 at the d'Or National Sports Complex), and the AJP Tour South Africa National Jiu-Jitsu Championship covers the AJP-ruleset stop (most recently October 25–26, 2025 — gi and no-gi).
Cape Town is the country's longest-running BJJ anchor. Renzo Gracie Cape Town (86 Buitengracht St, City Centre) was founded by brothers Wesley and Kurdt George; the academy was converted to a fully-fledged Renzo Gracie affiliate in 2008. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Cape Town in Table View is described on its site as Africa's first Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Certified Training Center.
Johannesburg's anchor is Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Fourways in Sandton — Johannesburg's first Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Certified Training Center.
