South Africa

BJJ Academies in Western Cape.

Western Cape — anchored by Cape Town — is South Africa's longest-running BJJ region. The province hosts the bulk of the country's affiliate-team rooms.

Renzo Gracie Cape Town (86 Buitengracht St, City Centre) was founded by brothers Wesley and Kurdt George; the academy was converted to a fully-fledged Renzo Gracie affiliate in 2008. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Cape Town in Table View is described on its site as Africa's first Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Certified Training Center. The two-track competition surface — the SJJAF Open Africa Jiu-Jitsu Championship and the AJP Tour South Africa National Jiu-Jitsu Championship — both include Cape Town–anchored academies among their regular medal-winners.
